The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has officially announced the examination dates for the 2026 Common-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, First Series, providing clarity for thousands of candidates preparing for the assessment.
The timetable, published on WAEC’s verified X account on Tuesday, details the subjects, examination dates and start times, giving candidates ample time to plan and prepare ahead of the nationwide examinations.
In its announcement, the council urged candidates to carefully study the timetable and ensure they understand all registration and examination requirements before the tests begin. WAEC also reminded candidates to strictly adhere to examination rules and regulations to avoid sanctions or disqualification.
“Here’s the timetable for the CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2026 – First Series. We wish you success and a wonderful experience,” the council stated in its post.

WAEC further confirmed that the 2026 CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates, First Series, will commence on Tuesday, January 28. The examination will be conducted entirely through computer-based testing, CBT, in line with the council’s ongoing reforms aimed at improving efficiency, enhancing credibility and modernising the conduct of public examinations across the West African region.
The introduction of full CBT for private candidates marks another step in WAEC’s transition toward digital assessment, a move expected to reduce examination malpractice and ensure faster processing of results.
Candidates are advised to visit WAEC’s official website to access the complete timetable and obtain further updates as the examination date approaches.
