The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has held a strategic stakeholders’ meeting aimed at repositioning the party, as leaders reaffirmed their commitment to its rebirth.

State Caretaker Chairman, Iquat Umoren, expressed appreciation to party stakeholders for remaining loyal despite recent challenges.

He explained that the meeting was part of a broader strategy to revive and strengthen the party ahead of future political engagements.

“We are here to prepare our strategy for the year. It is time for us to return to the communities,” Umoren said, noting that the continued interest in PDP members underscores their political relevance.

He assured stakeholders that under his leadership, the party would emerge stronger.

“PDP remains very strong in Akwa Ibom State. Despite all their claims, they are still uneasy because of those of us who remain in PDP.

“Together, we will rebuild this party and reclaim our mandate in 2027,” he declared.

Also addressing the gathering, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, acknowledged that the party was going through a difficult phase but urged members to remain focused and undistracted by defections.

“This is a period of testing. People will come to test your resolve and even attempt to buy your loyalty, but the real question is: how much are you worth?” Ememobong challenged members.

On the multiple legal battles involving the party, he expressed confidence that the cases would soon be heard and resolved in PDP’s favour, citing judicial precedents in similar matters.

According to him, the party has passed through its lowest point and is now on the path to recovery.

“We have reached the bottom of the valley. From here, it is an upward movement. PDP is coming back strong nationally, and whether it comes back strong in Akwa Ibom depends on all of us,” he added.

Former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and former member of the House of Representatives, Onofiok Luke, commended party members for their steadfastness and loyalty.

He noted that those who had left the PDP were merely exercising their constitutional right to freedom of association, stressing that those who chose to remain in the party deserved the same respect.

“This party has given me every political opportunity I have had—from serving as a governor’s aide to legislator, speaker, and federal lawmaker. In its trying times, good conscience will not allow me to abandon it.

“I choose to remain and rebuild,” Luke said, drawing inspiration from biblical passages, expressing optimism that the party would rise again despite present challenges.

“This party shall rise and flourish again,” he assured members.
