Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has charged social media influencers and bloggers in the state to prioritise the interest of Kano in their digital engagements, stressing that responsible content creation is critical to sustaining peace, unity and development.
The governor gave the charge on Saturday during the distribution of motorcycles to recognised social media promoters across the state, an initiative aimed at enhancing their mobility and productivity in the digital space.
Gov. Yusuf said the empowerment programme is part of his administration’s deliberate, people-centred strategy to promote youth inclusion, economic participation and sustainable development, noting that social media had emerged as a powerful platform for advocacy, creativity and livelihood, especially among young people.
He urged beneficiaries to use their platforms to project the image of the state positively and to support government policies and programmes, particularly those aimed at sustaining peace and stability in the state.
“We have no other home than Kano. I therefore urge you to always put Kano first in your content. Freedom of expression must be guided by ethics, decency and respect for others,” the governor said.
Highlighting other empowerment initiatives of his administration, Gov. Yusuf disclosed that over 5,200 women benefit monthly from the state’s women empowerment programme, receiving N50,000 each as seed capital to start or expand small businesses.
He said the initiative was designed to promote financial independence, strengthen households and uplift communities.
The governor also said thousands of youths had been trained in various skills, including ICT, tailoring, welding, carpentry and agribusiness, through state-supported vocational and leadership institutes.
According to him, additional support, including equipment and start-up capital, has been provided to enable young people to establish businesses and become employers of labour.
Gov. Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding empowerment opportunities, investing in human capital development and creating an enabling environment for innovation and entrepreneurship to thrive.
He called on the beneficiaries to use social media as a tool for unity, enlightenment and positive change, while offering prayers for lasting peace and socio-economic development of Kano State.
