Influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, has renewed his criticism of Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, accusing the singer of repeatedly disrespecting music legends and senior figures within Nigeria’s entertainment industry. The latest comments have sparked fresh debate across social media, further fuelling controversy around Wizkid’s recent public remarks.
Speaking in a widely shared statement, Verydarkman argued that Wizkid has not made the kind of cultural or societal contributions that would justify comparisons with late Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti. He described Wizkid’s recent comments linking himself to Fela as poorly timed and insensitive, noting that they appeared to embolden fans to dismiss or ridicule Fela’s legacy.
According to Verydarkman, the issue goes beyond a single statement. He claimed that Wizkid has developed a pattern of downplaying the achievements of those who came before him in the music industry. He cited previous online exchanges involving Don Jazzy, the founder of Mavin Records, as evidence of what he described as a dismissive attitude toward established industry figures.

Verydarkman alleged that Wizkid once reposted comments that portrayed Don Jazzy as merely an influencer, an action he said subtly diminished the producer’s role and impact in shaping modern Nigerian music. He maintained that such behaviour reflects a consistent trend rather than an isolated lapse in judgment.
In his remarks, Verydarkman insisted that greatness should be measured by contribution to society, cultural influence, and respect for history, not popularity alone. He argued that Fela’s legacy transcends music, touching politics, activism, and national consciousness in ways that contemporary artists are yet to match.
The outspoken influencer concluded that Wizkid should exercise greater restraint and respect, particularly when referencing icons whose influence laid the foundation for today’s Afrobeats global success. As reactions continue to pour in online, the clash has reignited broader conversations about legacy, respect, and responsibility among Nigeria’s biggest music stars.
