The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 27-year-old woman, Miss Esther Akwaji, who reportedly died after visiting her boyfriend in Dei-Dei, Abuja.
Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh made this known in a statement issued on Friday Abuja, nothing that a distress call was received at about 11am on Wednesday, January 22, at the Dei-Dei ‘A’ Division from the deceased’s brother, Mr Peter Akwaji, who reported that Esther left home the previous day to visit a bank in Dei-Dei but never returned.
Police said, the complainant disclosed that at about 10:30pm on the same day, he received an anonymous phone call from a man who identified himself as Esther’s boyfriend.
The caller reportedly said the deceased had visited him at his residence, where he bought food for her. After eating the food, she allegedly began vomiting and was rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.
Josephine said operatives from the Dei-Dei Division immediately proceeded to the hospital following the report.
“The lifeless body of Miss Esther Akwaji was recovered and deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death,” the statement read.

The police said discreet investigations had commenced and efforts were ongoing to trace and apprehend the alleged boyfriend, who is currently on the run.
The Command assured members of the public of a thorough investigation, adding that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice.
“Further developments will be communicated as investigations progress,” the police added.
