The Taraba State Sports Development Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to sustained collaboration with schools as part of a broader strategy to revive grassroots sports and position the state as a hub for sporting excellence.
The Chairman of the Commission, Coach Elder Bulus Hussaini, made this known yesterday while addressing participants at a two-day capacity-building seminar for secondary school game masters in the state.
According to him, the training was designed to strengthen grassroots sports talent discovery and development across the nooks and crannies of Taraba State.
The seminar, held at the Taraba State Sports Development Commission complex within the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo, brought together game masters, physical education teachers, and school sports coordinators from public secondary schools across the state.
The training focused on equipping participants with modern techniques and practical skills for identifying, nurturing, and managing young sporting talents at the secondary school level.
Emphasizing that schools remain the bedrock of sports development, Coach Hussaini noted that early identification of talent is crucial to building a strong and competitive sports sector in the state. He described game masters as key partners in the Commission’s drive to discover and groom future champions who would represent Taraba State and the nation.

In a paper presentation, the former Deputy National President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Moyoyo, stressed the need for game masters to maintain healthy and supportive relationships with student-athletes in order to positively influence their physical, mental, and moral development.
Moyoyo, who is also a member of the Commission, reiterated the determination of the Commission to leave no stone unturned in its efforts to revive grassroots sports across the length and breadth of the state. Other resource persons supported his submission, urging school game masters to give adequate attention to their athletes regardless of their backgrounds.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mr. George Shitta, expressed delight over the large turnout of participants and urged them to effectively apply the knowledge gained in their respective schools. He also commended the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for his unwavering support to the Commission.
Some participants who spoke with our correspondent called on the authorities to intensify efforts toward providing adequate sports facilities in public schools to enhance effective sports development across the state.
