An Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver involved in the road crash that claimed the lives of two close associates of Nigerian-born boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, to February 25, 2026.

The case, which was slated for hearing on Tuesday, was shifted following an application by the prosecuting counsel, Richard Nigiwe, who informed the court that only three out of the four prosecution witnesses were in attendance.

Nigiwe also told the court that the adjournment was necessary to enable the prosecution duplicate the case file and forward it to the Ogun State attorney general through the department of public prosecution for legal advice.

However, the defence counsel, Olalekan Abiodun, opposed the request, arguing that the prosecution had sufficient time before the hearing date to complete the required documentation.

After listening to both parties, the magistrate ruled that the matter be adjourned in the interest of justice and directed the prosecution to ensure the duplication and submission of the case file to the attorney general’s office before the next hearing date.

Speaking after the proceedings, Abiodun said he had accepted the court’s decision, while the prosecuting counsel declined to comment.

Kayode, 46, is standing trial over a fatal accident that occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Lexus SUV he was driving reportedly rammed into a stationary truck, leading to the death of Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, both said to be close friends of Anthony Joshua.

Joshua and Kayode reportedly sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The defendant is facing four counts, including dangerous and negligent driving, as well as driving without a valid driver’s licence.

He was first remanded in custody on January 2, 2026, before being granted bail of N5million with two sureties.

The Ogun State Police Command had earlier confirmed that Kayode remained in custody pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions. The case had previously been adjourned to January 20 for trial before the latest postponement.
