Tottenham defender Ben Davies is set to have surgery on a broken ankle, which may prevent him from participating in Wales’ World Cup play-off.
The 32-year-old required oxygen and was taken off the field on a stretcher after just 19 minutes during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham in the Premier League.
A statement from Spurs confirmed that Ben Davies will undergo surgery today for a fracture of his left ankle.
However, the club did not provide an estimate for how long the Wales captain will be sidelined.
Wales is scheduled to play Bosnia-Herzegovina in the World Cup play-off semi-final at Cardiff City Stadium on March 26, with the winner facing either Northern Ireland or Italy in the final on March 31.

Davies adds to Tottenham’s increasing list of injuries, while manager Thomas Frank is facing criticism with only seven wins in 22 league matches this season, leaving Spurs in 14th place in the standings.
During the latter part of the match against West Ham, Spurs fans chanted “you’re getting sacked in the morning” directed at Frank, who took over in June.
Although Tottenham has discussed Frank’s future, he remains in charge ahead of the Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
