Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Monday, January 19, 2026, flagged off the construction of the N59.7 billion Uromi Junction Flyover in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.
He described the project as a strategic intervention to enhance road safety, ease traffic congestion and stimulate economic activities.
The flyover, located at a critical junction linking the South-East, South-West, the North and the Niger Delta region, is expected to significantly reduce accidents and improve vehicular movement along one of the busiest federal corridors in the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Gov. Oborevwori said the project was conceived in response to repeated accidents at the junction, many of which had resulted in avoidable loss of lives and property due to heavy traffic volume, pedestrian crossings and indiscriminate movement.
“This junction is very dear to me because it is a route I have personally used over the years. I have witnessed the challenges and tragic incidents here.
“This flyover is about saving lives, improving safety and ensuring smooth movement for thousands of Nigerians who ply this route daily,” the governor said.
He disclosed that the contract for the design and construction of the flyover was awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc at a cost of N59.7 billion, with a completion timeline of 14 months.
