Africa’s top para badminton player, Eniola Bolaji has claimed victory by securing gold at the 2026 Egypt International Championship on Sunday, January 18.
The paralympic bronze medalist triumphed over Turkey’s world No. 7, Halime Yildiz, with a score of 2–0 (21–10, 21–4) at the New Capital Indoor Hall in Cairo.
Ranked second in the world, Bolaji started her tournament with a strong 2–0 (21–9, 21–10) win against Yildiz in the first round, followed by a 2–0 (21–10, 21–7) victory over India’s Tulika Jadgave in the second round.
She continued her impressive performance by defeating India’s Manasi Girishchandra Joshi 2–0 (21–11, 21–13), which led her to a semifinal match against India’s Shivam Yadav Neeraj, where she won decisively 2–0 (21–10, 21–11).
Francis Orbih, the President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, expressed his pride in Bolaji’s consistency and her ability to elevate Nigeria’s presence on the global stage.
Orbih stated that the African champion has consistently demonstrated Nigeria’s potential to compete and excel internationally through her remarkable achievements.
“I am thrilled that Eniola Bolaji was able to participate in the Egypt Para Badminton International and secure gold once again.

“In 2025, she began her path to success with a win in North Africa and went on to capture nearly all available gold medals.
“I have high hopes for Bolaji in the upcoming year, and I believe she will continue to bring honor to Nigeria and the Federation,” he said.
Orbih also acknowledged the support from the team’s sponsors and the National Sports Commission in fostering the growth of para badminton.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to GIG Logistics and the National Sports Commission for their steadfast support. I assure you that Eniola Bolaji will continue to give her best in future tournaments,” he added.
