Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has addressed his son, Abba Abubakar’s switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the choice was a personal one and not a matter of concern.

In a statement posted on X on Thursday, Atiku noted that it is common in a democracy for family members to have differing political affiliations.

He emphasized that he does not impose his beliefs on his children or any Nigerian.

Atiku clarified that Abba’s decision to join the APC was solely his own and should not be viewed as unusual, despite the intersection of politics and family.

However, he criticized the ruling APC, expressing that his primary focus remains on governance and the hardships currently faced by Nigerians.

He held the party accountable for what he termed poor governance and significant economic and social challenges in the country.

Atiku affirmed his commitment to collaborating with like-minded Nigerians to offer a better alternative that would bring hope, relief, and progress to the populace.

Earlier reports indicated that Abba Abubakar had recently transitioned from the PDP to the APC.

He made his announcement at the National Assembly in Abuja, where he was welcomed by Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin and other APC officials.

Abba stated that he joined the APC due to Senator Barau’s leadership style and committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

He also instructed members of his political group to join the APC and back the ruling party.
