Former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Tammy Wenike Danagogo, has requested a new date to honour a police invitation linked to an investigation into an alleged plot to assassinate the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The request was contained in a letter dated January 13, 2026, written by his law firm, Danagogo, Oputa and Associates, and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team, at the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Guzape District, Abuja. The firm explained that Danagogo was out of town and therefore unable to appear as scheduled on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
According to the letter, the police invitation was served to the firm on Monday evening at about 6:00 pm. The firm said it promptly contacted its principal partner upon receipt of the letter, only to discover that he was unavailable due to his absence from town. On that basis, the lawyers appealed to the police to shift the interview to Monday, January 26, 2026, to enable Danagogo to present himself for questioning.
The correspondence, signed by Sir I. O. Nwodoh, an associate at the firm, emphasized the willingness of the former Rivers SSG to cooperate with investigators once he becomes available.
The police invitation, referenced CR: 3000/FID/IRT/ABJ/ADM/VOL. 9/57, is part of an ongoing investigation into a leaked audio recording allegedly linked to a plot to assassinate Wike. In an earlier letter dated January 9, 2026, the Intelligence Response Team had directed Danagogo to appear in person at its Guzape facility by 10:00 am on January 15.

The summons described the invitation as a fact-finding exercise conducted in the interest of justice and fairness, citing Section 53(2)(c) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, as its legal basis. Although the letter did not explicitly mention Wike or an assassination plot, sources familiar with the probe said the investigation centres on a viral audio recording purportedly discussing plans to eliminate the FCT minister.
Danagogo, a known ally of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, served as Secretary to the State Government before the political rift between Fubara and Wike deepened. The alleged plot has further heightened tensions in Rivers State, where political rivalry has remained intense.
Security sources earlier disclosed that a Port Harcourt-based medical doctor and pastor, Dr. Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, had been arrested in connection with the matter. Gbeneol, founder of Life Forte Chapel Church, was reportedly taken into custody by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team following the interception of a phone conversation allegedly involving him and Danagogo.
According to the sources, the conversation allegedly contained discussions about sourcing foreign operatives and seeking funding to carry out the plot, which investigators reportedly classified as a serious national security threat. Dr. Gbeneol has been in detention for about two weeks as investigations continue.
Confirming the arrest, the Nigeria Police Force said a suspect is currently in custody. Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said investigations are ongoing but declined to provide further details.
As the probe widens, attention is now focused on whether Danagogo will honour the rescheduled invitation and what further revelations may emerge in a case that has continued to shake Nigeria’s political space.
