The Edo State Police Command has appointed a new divisional police officer for the Ekpoma Division following recent protests and security concerns in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, ordered the reorganisation of the Ekpoma Division as part of the ongoing security assessment and strategic repositioning in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem.
The statement said the commissioner of police approved the posting of CSP Tomofe Nwabueze as the new divisional police officer of the Ekpoma Division, with immediate effect.
“The Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that, as part of ongoing security assessment and strategic repositioning in Ekpoma, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, Monday Agbonika, has ordered the reorganisation of the Ekpoma Division.
“The commissioner of police has also approved the posting of CSP Tomofe Nwabueze to assume office as the new DPO with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Ekpoma has witnessed unrest since Saturday after residents staged a protest over rising insecurity, including incidents of kidnapping and the killing of a youth on Friday night.

The protest, which began peacefully, later turned violent after hoodlums hijacked the demonstration.
They blocked a major highway, attacked traders at the livestock market, killed goats, injured cattle, and vandalised the palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma, Zaiki Anthony Abumere II.
The attack on the traditional ruler’s palace was strongly condemned by Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Ikoedem also confirmed that one person was shot by a soldier during the unrest, adding that the incident had been referred to the appropriate military authorities for investigation.
