The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of a veteran photojournalist, Umar Usman, by suspected bandits in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
Usman, a retired staff member of Africa Independent Television (AIT), Kaduna Station, and a former employee of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Kaduna, was reportedly kidnapped from his residence in Danhonu II community, Millennium City, on Monday night.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that security operatives had launched a manhunt for the abductors.
“We are trying our best to rescue him unhurt,” Hassan said.

According to the police, the journalist was abducted at about 9:00 p.m. by gunmen suspected to be bandits, an incident that has heightened fear and anxiety among residents of the area, which has witnessed repeated security breaches in recent times.
Hassan disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Rabiu Muhammad, had ordered the immediate deployment of operatives to track the kidnappers and secure the victim’s release.
He appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible intelligence that could aid the rescue operation.
