Nollywood actor and filmmaker Jamiu Azeez has responded to the criticism he faced over claims that he converted from Islam to Christianity, which arose after he posted a video of himself attending a church service.
The Yoruba star defended his personal choice and right to practice his faith amid the backlash.
The controversy started when Jamiu shared a video of himself dressed in a white garment during a church crossover service.
The post quickly gained traction, leading some members of the Muslim community to question his faith and suggest he change his name.
The video prompted a flurry of reactions online, with both fans and critics weighing in.
Jamiu shared screenshots of the messages and comments he received, illustrating the severity of the backlash regarding his supposed conversion.
“Only in Nigeria do people care so much about someone else’s life. Can you imagine telling a man in his 40s how to live?

“I posted a video of myself in a white garment on crossover night, and the comments I’ve seen on blogs, especially on Facebook, are unbelievable.
“Some even slid into my DMs to criticize me… I have the right to practice any religion I choose, and that shouldn’t concern anyone else. I never even claimed to have converted,” the actor asserted.
Jamiu highlighted that his religious beliefs are a personal matter and should not be subject to judgment.
He added that “don’t worry, I might wear a babalawo outfit tomorrow.”
