Troops from the 63 Brigade, Sector 1, Joint Task Force, South South, ‘Operation DELTA SAFE’ have dismantled a criminal gang and seized weapons and ammunition in the Oshimilli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
This was disclosed via a press release signed by the acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Captain Iliyasu Bawa-Rijua.
According to the realease, the operation led to the arrest of two suspects believed to be part of a notorious cult group in the state.
Their arrest followed reliable intelligence on the gang’s illicit activities during a recent operation near Ibusa.
The army further stated that during the operation, several firearms were confiscated, including two pump-action rifles, and three additional pump-action rifles recovered from alleged local vigilantes.
The arrested individuals and the seized weapons have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

Subsequent operations in the area led to the recovery of eight more pump-action rifles in Umuisiagba.
Thirteen suspects were apprehended, including Nwaokonta Elvis, Obi Victor Woke, Uba Elijah, Nonso Ibiora, Dumbili Ezefili, Ndefu Ifeanyi, Ozemene Richard, Broderick Patrick, Nwaokonta Afamefile, Kelvin Ejiani, Victor Ogochukwu, Ogadi Kelvin Ikechukwu, and Ndibuisi Obiogonna (a native doctor).
Meanwhile, the Commander of the 63 Brigade, Brigadier General MA Shonibare hailed the troops for their vigilance and urged them to continue targeting all criminal networks in the area.
He assured residents of Delta State and surrounding areas that the brigade remains committed to prioritising the safety of lives and property.
