Residents along the Benin–Sapele Road, under the Sapele Road Bypass Axis Group (SARBAG), have commended Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his intervention in reviving the long-neglected Benin–Sapele–Warri Road.
The residents praised the governor for restoring economic activities along the Sapele Road bypass, noting that improved road conditions have boosted trade and business across several communities. They also expressed their support for Okpebholo’s second-term ambition, pledging to back him in the 2028 governorship election.
Landlords and commuters highlighted that the comprehensive overhaul of the federal road, now jointly managed by the Edo State Government (EDSG) and the Federal Government, is expected to facilitate transportation and stimulate economic activities between Edo State and neighboring states in the South-South and South-East regions.
Prior to the intervention, socio-economic activities along the corridor had been stalled for years due to the road’s deplorable state, prompting protests from over 20 communities. Governor Okpebholo’s administration initiated the massive reconstruction project, dispelling the notion that the road was solely a federal responsibility.
The reconstruction, covering Ekea, Peanut, PZ, Mousco, Evbukhu, Ogheghe, and other junctions, features modern concrete pavement and robust drainage systems to mitigate flooding and reduce travel time. At the Ogheghe axis, the government is also rehabilitating internal roads and enhancing old sections of the Sapele Road with additional hydrological structures.

Speaking to journalists, SARBAG officials—including Chairman Daniel Omoregbe, Secretary Pastor Moses Omo-Osagiede, and Treasurer Comrade Desmond Ekhator—praised the governor for the timely intervention, which they said has improved road accessibility and revitalized commerce.
“We thank Governor Monday Okpebholo for his intervention on this road. There are visible changes. The road is now motorable, aiding smooth vehicular movement and boosting business activities,” they said.
Motorist Hon. Lion Joseph Ogieva echoed the sentiment, noting that the performance of the current administration far surpasses previous efforts. He added that residents of the Sapele Road axis have greatly benefited from the collaboration between the Edo State Government and the Federal Government.
“For his performance, I will be at the forefront of his re-election in 2028. This road is a gateway to the South-South and South-East and will significantly boost economic activities in Edo State,” Ogieva said.
