President Daniel Francisco Chapo of Mozambique has pledged a substantial cash incentive to the national football team if they manage to defeat Nigeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Morocco.

The Mozambique team, known as the Mambas, secured their spot in the round of 16 after finishing third in Group F. Despite losing their final group match 2-1 to Cameroon,

However, Nigeria, recognized as one of the top teams in the tournament, now stands in their path.

In a message delivered to the players and coaching staff on Thursday, President Chapo commended their performance and hailed their qualification as a historic achievement that has filled the nation with pride.

He praised the team for their discipline, bravery, and determination, stating that they have created a new chapter in the history of Mozambican football.

To further motivate them before their match against Nigeria, the president announced a special bonus of 500,000 meticais for each player and coaching staff member if they succeed in eliminating the Super Eagles.

This amount is roughly equivalent to N11.3 million.

President Chapo emphasized that the entire nation stands firmly behind the team and believes in their potential to achieve an unexpected victory.

Nigeria and Mozambique are scheduled to compete on Monday, January 5, at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, with kickoff set for 8 pm.
