Chief Chukwuma Ifeanyi Odii, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections, has formally resigned his membership of the PDP in Ebonyi State.
Odii’s resignation, which took immediate effect, was conveyed in a letter dated Thursday, January 1, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Amanator Ward, Isuachara, in Onicha Local Government Area of the state. The development marks a significant political shift within the Ebonyi chapter of the opposition party.
In the letter, the former governorship candidate said his decision to leave the PDP followed extensive consultations with his family and close associates. He described the move as a carefully considered step taken after reflecting on his political journey within the party.
Odii expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the PDP for the support and platform granted to him, particularly the opportunity to fly the party’s flag in the 2023 governorship election. He noted that the experience and exposure gained during that period remained valuable to him.

“I write to officially inform you that, following wide consultation with my family and close associates, I have taken a considered decision to resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect,” the letter stated.
He added that he was grateful to the party’s leadership and grassroots supporters for the chance to serve and contribute to the party’s growth during his time as a member.
Odii’s exit comes at a time of renewed realignments within Nigeria’s major political parties, as politicians position themselves ahead of future electoral contests. While he did not disclose his next political move, his resignation is expected to fuel speculation about possible defections or the formation of new alliances in Ebonyi State.
Party officials in the state are yet to issue an official response to his departure as of the time of filing this report.
