Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have accused Governor Similaye Fubara of consistently withdrawing funds from the state’s consolidated revenue account since 2023, without legislative approval, despite receiving warnings, court rulings, and constitutional guidelines.

The lawmakers also returned a Christmas bonus of N100,000 that was sent to them by Gov. Fubara, stating that the payment was not authorized by the legislature.

They cautioned civil servants and government officials against collaborating with the governor to violate the law, emphasizing that the House is aware of such activities.

The lawmakers labeled the payment as unsolicited and illegal, asserting that they would not accept any public funds that did not adhere to proper procedures.

In a statement released on Tuesday night, Enemi Alabo George, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions, and Complaints, revealed that all members of the 10th assembly received bank notifications of N100,000 on December 30, 2025.

He explained that the funds were deposited directly into their personal accounts at the governor’s instructions, without the House’s approval.

Upon discovering the transfers, the lawmakers promptly returned the money to the Rivers State government account.

George stated that the assembly, as a law-abiding body, would not engage in any actions that contravene the constitution.

He reiterated the accusation against Gov. Fubara for repeatedly withdrawing money from the state’s consolidated revenue account without legislative consent, despite prior warnings, court decisions, and constitutional mandates.

The lawmakers reiterated their warning to civil servants and government officials against participating in any unlawful activities with the governor, highlighting that the House is aware of such conduct.
