President of the Congress of African Journalists (CAJ) and former National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Chris Isiguzo, has condoled with the union over the death of seven journalists who died in a road accident in Gombe State.
In a message on Monday, Isiguzo described the incident as “a dark and painful moment” for the journalism profession, saying the development was even more devastating because the victims were members of the Gombe State Council — the home council of the incumbent NUJ President, Comrade Alhassan Abdullahi.
He commiserated with the national leadership of the NUJ, the Gombe State Council, families of the deceased, and colleagues affected by the tragedy, praying for the recovery of those injured in the crash.
“These were dedicated journalists who travelled to honour a colleague and returned no more. Their death is a loss not only to their families and the Union, but to the entire journalism fraternity in Nigeria and beyond,” Isiguzo said.

He urged members of the NUJ across the country to remain united and support one another during the mourning period, adding that the union’s resilience would be critical in overcoming the tragedy.
“Our hearts are broken, but our collective spirit remains unbowed,” he said, praying for God to strengthen the union’s leadership and comfort the bereaved.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), seven journalists were confirmed dead after a lone crash involving an NUJ bus on their return from a colleague’s wedding ceremony.
