Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has signed the N617.95 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, formally approving the implementation of what he described as the state’s “Budget of Consolidation.”
The signing ceremony took place on Monday at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Gombe, following the presentation of the budget by the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo, and other lawmakers.
Under the 2026 budget, N189 billion, representing 21.6 per cent, is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while N428.5 billion, or 69.4 per cent, is allocated to capital projects, underscoring the administration’s emphasis on infrastructure development, service delivery and sustainable economic growth.
Gov. Yahaya had earlier presented a N535.69 billion budget proposal to the House of Assembly. After legislative review and adjustments, the lawmakers approved an increase of over N82 billion, raising the total budget size to N617.95 billion.
A major highlight of the budget is the allocation of N12 billion to the Northern Regional Security Fund, amounting to a N1 billion monthly contribution.
The provision aligns with resolutions of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and positions Gombe as one of the leading states supporting coordinated efforts to address insecurity in the region.

Speaking at the ceremony, Gov. Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, the completion of ongoing legacy projects and the delivery of people-oriented development across urban and rural communities.
He said the 2026 budget prioritises key sectors such as health, education, social investment, environmental protection and mineral resources development, while also making special provision for the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
According to the governor, the budget reflects a realistic and responsible approach to governance, adding that no sector of the state’s economy has been neglected under his administration.
He commended the House of Assembly for what he described as a thorough and people-focused review of the budget and assured that the state would continue to uphold fiscal discipline, noting that budget implementation under his leadership has consistently exceeded 70 per cent.
Gov. Yahaya also praised the lawmakers for their unity and cooperation during the budget process, describing the relationship between the executive and legislative arms as cordial and productive.
The governor further expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government for ongoing support to Gombe State through various development programmes, while calling for increased interventions in the coming year.
Earlier, Speaker Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo said the House received the 2026 budget proposal on November 13, 2025, and subjected it to extensive scrutiny, including an extended session of the Appropriation Committee held in Calabar, Cross River State.
He explained that the legislative review resulted in modest upward adjustments aimed at strengthening the budget in the interest of the people of Gombe State.
The speaker commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for development projects across critical sectors, particularly health and education, noting that a recent health summit organised by the state government attracted global experts who acknowledged the state’s progress in healthcare delivery.
Luggerewo added that the Assembly’s actions were guided by good faith and public interest, while also thanking the governor for fostering a healthy working relationship among the arms of government and for providing logistics that have enhanced legislative efficiency.
