The Kano State Executive Council has approved the procurement of 300 motorcycles for the Neighbourhood Watch Corps, as part of efforts to strengthen community-based security across the state.

The approval, valued at N483.75 million, was announced by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the 35th Executive Council meeting held on December 18, 2025, at the Government House, Kano, and presided over by Governor Abba Yusuf.

Waiya said the motorcycles would be inaugurated by the governor and would be deployed to enhance patrol, surveillance and rapid response, particularly at the grassroots level.

He noted that the initiative is aimed at complementing the operations of conventional security agencies and improving safety in both urban and rural communities.

According to him, the council also approved the formal absorption of the Neighbourhood Watch Corps into the state civil service, directing the civil service commission and the office of the head of service to issue permanent and pensionable appointment letters to the 2000 operatives.

Beyond security, the council approved a total of N38.69 billion for the execution of projects across key sectors of the state economy, including education, infrastructure, health, water resources, agriculture and urban development.

In the education sector, approvals were granted for the settlement of outstanding obligations to boarding schools’ suppliers, rehabilitation of Government Secondary School, Mariri, procurement of 50,000 crate bags for pupils and students, and the relocation and reconstruction of two primary schools in Nassarawa Local Government Area.

Major infrastructure approvals included the re-award of the Gwarzo–Tsaure–Tsanyawa Road project, rehabilitation of dams, construction of a conference centre at the Governor’s Lodge in Kwankwasiyya City, and completion of several township and rural roads.

The council also approved funds for the renovation of a primary healthcare centre in Bichi, expansion of water supply projects, compensation for over 5,000 property owners in Rimin Zakara, and measures to address street begging across the state.

Waiya said the decisions underscore the administration’s commitment to security, infrastructure renewal and inclusive development in Kano State.
