Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has formally reacted to insinuations that he is running an administration marked by opacity in managing state resources.
Recall that recently, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule expressed concern over decay in public primary and secondary schools in the state.
The speaker went further to say that the sum of N600 billion was left in the coffers of the state government at the end of the emergency rule and wondered what the governor was doing with state resources, if he could not deploy the money to improve infrastructure in the affected schools and other areas requiring urgent government attention.
However on Wednesday, the governor apparently addressing the concern raised by the speaker, restated his resolve to run an open and accountable government, declaring that his administration has maintained clear, verifiable and comprehensive financial records that will soon be made available to the public.
The governor who spoke at the commissioning of the 14.2-kilometre Obodhi–Ozochi Road at Ozochi Playground in Ahoada-East Local Government Area, said transparency and prudent management of public resources remain non-negotiable pillars of his leadership.
He disclosed that his administration left over ₦300 billion in the state’s coffers before the declaration of emergency rule and returned to meet the figure increased to about ₦600 billion, stressing that the records explaining the growth are intact and traceable.
Gov. Fubara said detailed documentation of revenue inflows, expenditures and ongoing projects has been carefully preserved and will be opened to public scrutiny soon.
