Five-time boxing world champion Terence Crawford has announced his retirement from professional boxing at the age of 38, bringing an end to one of the most dominant careers of the modern era.

The American star made the announcement on Wednesday, declaring that he was stepping away from the sport as a champion with nothing left to prove. Crawford retires with a flawless professional record of 42 wins from 42 fights, cementing his status among boxing’s elite.

Crawford made history in September after defeating Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, a victory that saw him become the first male boxer in the modern era to hold undisputed titles across three different weight divisions. The landmark win now stands as the final bout of a career that began in 2008 with a victory over Brian Cummings.

Speculation about Crawford’s future had intensified following his rise to undisputed super-middleweight champion, adding to an already remarkable collection of titles won at lightweight, light-welterweight, welterweight, and light-middleweight.

In a farewell message shared on his YouTube channel, Crawford reflected on the inevitability of retirement, saying every fighter knows the moment will come, even if the timing is never certain. In the caption accompanying the video, he stressed that he had achieved everything he set out to accomplish in the ring.

“I dedicated my entire life to pursuing something,” Crawford said. “Not titles, not money, not fame, but that feeling you get when the world doubts you and you keep showing up to prove them wrong.”

He described boxing as the platform that gave him purpose and identity, saying he fought for his family, his city of Omaha, and the boy he once was, driven only by a dream and a pair of gloves. Crawford said he was proud to have achieved success on his own terms and was now ready for the next chapter of his life.

Throughout his career, Crawford recorded 31 knockouts and produced a series of commanding performances, including WBO welterweight title victories over British fighters Amir Khan and Kell Brook. His blend of technical skill, power, and ring intelligence earned him widespread respect across the boxing world.

Crawford now joins a select group of athletes who chose to step away at the peak of their powers, leaving behind a legacy defined by dominance, discipline, and an unblemished record.
