The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, has urged Nigerian students to persist in their studies of the Chinese Language and to prepare themselves as future ambassadors of the friendship between China and Nigeria.
The consul general also revealed that the trade volume between China and Nigeria is projected to reach $20 billion by 2026.
Yuqing noted that the strengthening of bilateral relations highlights the importance of China supporting education through the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone (OGFTZ) via the 2025 edition of its annual schools’ quiz and debate competition, which took place at the Community Civic Centre in Igbesa.

During the event, she referred to the competition as a vital cultural link that encourages youth participation and enhances China-Nigeria relations.
She praised OGFTZ for its efforts in promoting industrial development alongside educational support initiatives in the local communities.
The event was organized by the China-Africa Investment FZC in collaboration with Wema Bank, Stanbic IBTC, and various enterprises within the zone.
Oba Abdulazeez Akinde, the Oloja Ekun of Igbesaland, represented by Teslim Nasiru, encouraged students to stay dedicated to their studies, emphasizing that they are “the leaders of today.”
He commended China-Africa Investment FZC for its ongoing initiatives that foster quality education and a conducive learning environment.
Mr. Zhao, General Manager of China-Africa Investment FZC, reiterated the company’s dedication to improving the lives of its host communities, acknowledging the commitment of teachers and stressing that the company’s educational support extends beyond the annual event.
