Nigeria’s Defence Minister, retired General Christopher Musa, has said that the country’s recent security gains are the product of shared effort across the Armed Forces, warning that no single arm can defend the nation in isolation. He made the remark in Abuja during the decoration of newly promoted Air Vice Marshals and Air Commodores of the Nigerian Air Force.
Musa reminded the officers that each promotion carries a duty to rise above routine and strengthen ongoing operations. He noted that expectations remain high because the newly elevated officers possess the clarity and judgment required to sustain the momentum in the fight against insecurity. He praised the service chiefs and rank-and-file personnel, calling inter-service cooperation the central force behind recent breakthroughs. He also credited President Bola Tinubu for steady support that has helped the Armed Forces hold ground in critical theatres.

The minister stressed that the promotion system remains open and fair, assuring officers still waiting for elevation that their turn would come. He urged the new ranks to deepen unity and resilience, insisting that setbacks never last when the military stands together.
In his remarks, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, urged the officers to uphold integrity, discipline and sound leadership, saying their elevation is a clear sign of trust in their professionalism. Speaking for the group, Air Vice Marshal Akin Adebomehin attributed the promotions to divine favour and the confidence placed in them by President Tinubu. He pledged renewed dedication to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and safeguarding citizens, while noting the role of the Defence Council and other key authorities in ensuring a smooth promotion process.
