NAFDAC destroys over N5 billion worth of unsafe and substandard products in Nasarawa State, as part of an initiative to combat the distribution of hazardous goods across the country.
The products, which were confiscated from Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Plateau States in the North-Central region, were disposed of at the Angwan Rere dumpsite in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
During the event, NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Christianah Adeyeye, on Thursday stated that the counterfeit items were seized during routine monitoring operations conducted by the agency’s staff.
Represented by the North-Central Zonal Director, Mr. Kenneth Azikiwe, the Director-General emphasized that the purpose of the operation was to prevent these dangerous products from re-entering the market and endangering public health.

She also noted that some damaged and expired products were voluntarily surrendered by traders and encouraged Nigerians to report those involved in the production of fake or substandard goods, reaffirming NAFDAC’s commitment to protecting public health.
Usman Baba, the Nasarawa Commissioner for Security and Safety Matters, praised NAFDAC’s efforts to clean up the markets and promised the state government’s support in enhancing enforcement to ensure that only legitimate products are available.
