The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Osun State has cautioned that the ongoing closure of courts could lead to a crisis in the state if it persists.
This warning was issued in a letter to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Monday, with copies sent to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, the Chief Judge, Adepele Ojo, the Attorney General, Oluwole Bada, and the state JUSUN Vhairman, Idris Adeniran.
Dated December 8, 2025, the letter was signed by the chairpersons of the five NBA branches in Osun, including Maruf Adediran of Osogbo, Niyi Akinsola of Ikirun, F. O. Ajani of Iwo, Ayodele Olawoye of Ife, and Raymond Oki of Ilesa.
The courts in the state have been closed since September 22 due to an industrial strike declared by members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria over unmet demands.
The NBA urged Gov. Adeleke to direct JUSUN to suspend the strike and resume operations within seven days, emphasizing the need to maintain public order, uphold constitutional governance, and ensure the well-being of Osun residents.

To address the situation, the NBA held separate discussions with the chief judge, the sttorney general, and JUSUN leaders. However, progress was hindered when JUSUN did not attend a joint meeting organized by the NBA with the chief judge.
The NBA also noted that the issues causing the strike have persisted because some members of the Judicial Service Commission, appointed by the governor, did not attend a meeting called by the chief judge.
The association requested that Gov. Adeleke assure JUSUN that their legitimate demands will be addressed through a structured and timely process overseen by the Judicial Service Commission and the NBA.
Additionally, it urged him to instruct all his appointees in the Judicial Service Commission to attend and engage in every meeting convened by the chief judge.
