The Delta State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the investigation into the killing of retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwu with the arrest of the prime suspect, 25-year-old Godwin Mngumi.

The respected jurist was brutally murdered in her Asaba home on Sunday, November 23, 2025.

In a statement issued on Sunday, December 7, 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, revealed that detectives from the State CID Homicide Section picked up Mngumi on December 6 after acting on credible intelligence. Police operatives also recovered the late judge’s mobile phone from him.

Investigations took a new turn after Mngumi allegedly confessed to planning the attack, admitting he brought in two accomplices, Nnaji Obalum and another suspect still on the run to carry out the crime at the victim’s Asaba residence. Obalum is already in custody, while efforts to track the fleeing suspect continue.

Justice Okogwu’s death sparked public outrage after she was found bound and lifeless in her home on November 24. Her brother discovered the scene and alerted the police, prompting Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, to order the case transferred to the State CID for a full-scale investigation.

Reiterating its determination to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice, the Command appealed to members of the public with information that may aid the arrest of the remaining suspect to contact the police through its emergency numbers: 08036684974, 08114895600, and 08025666914.
