The chairman of Isoko South Local Government, Hon Warri Ovoke Friday, marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a gathering that drew more than two hundred participants to the Otobo Hall in Oleh. The event took on a warm and reassuring tone as he urged persons with disabilities to reject any sense of exclusion and to recognise their worth in society.
Warri spoke plainly about the need for confidence and self-respect, reminding the audience that their challenges do not diminish their value. He stressed that they remain equal members of the community and that the council acknowledges their contributions. He added that society must play its part by offering steady encouragement, especially to those living with severe physical limitations. He promised to work with the council management to address the concerns raised, particularly those tied to welfare and inclusion.

Earlier, the chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disability, Isoko South chapter, Mr Sammy Emmanuel, delivered a message that echoed the global theme of the day. He appealed to Nigerians, especially the Isoko community at home and abroad, to help advance opportunities for persons with disabilities. He outlined key needs such as skill acquisition centres, accessible facilities, a dedicated disability desk at the council, and financial support to strengthen economic participation. He also called for greater involvement of women in championing disability advocacy across the region.
The event also featured the presentation of an award to the council chairman for his continued support since assuming office. A performance by learners with disabilities from Owhara Primary School, Oleh, drew warm applause, and the day closed with the distribution of rice, cash, and other items to all attendees as a gesture of support for their wellbeing.
