President Bola Tinubu has congratulated elder statesman, academic, and veteran politician, Prof. Jerry Gana, on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
He praised Gana as one of Nigeria’s most committed public servants and a patriot who has made significant contributions to the nation’s development.
In a statement released on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu paid tribute to Prof. Gana’s extensive and distinguished career in public service, emphasizing that his efforts have left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s socio-political environment.
The president noted Prof. Gana’s impressive history of public service, which includes serving as minister of information and culture/national orientation twice under different administrations, as well as leading the Mass Mobilisation for Social Justice and Economic Recovery (MAMSER) during President Ibrahim Babangida’s tenure.
He also recalled Prof. Gana’s brief yet significant time as a senator during the short-lived Second Republic.

Describing the former minister as “a fine gentleman, a skilled communicator, a mass mobiliser, and a devoted patriot with exceptional oratory skills,” Tinubu commended Prof. Gana’s relentless efforts in mobilizing and raising awareness to promote unity, peace, and national development.
The president stated that Gana’s work over the years has consistently upheld Nigeria’s core values and ideals, establishing him as one of the nation’s most prominent advocates for social cohesion, good governance, and civic responsibility.
Tinubu wished the celebrant a happy 80th birthday and prayed for “many more years of good health and a sound mind” for him to continue his contributions to the country.
The president reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to recognizing national figures whose dedication and sacrifices have fortified Nigeria’s democratic progress.
