The Kano State government has announced the full enforcement of the Motorcycling and Related Matters (Regulations) Law 2013, as part of renewed efforts to improve public safety, curb criminal activities and maintain order across the state.
Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Maude, reminded residents—particularly commercial motorcyclists that the law remains in force and prohibits the conveyance of passengers on motorcycles within key metropolitan local government areas.
A statement signed by the commissioner’s Special Assistant (Media), Abubakar Ibrahim, said the affected local government areas include Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Ungogo (Jido), Dawakin Kudu (Tamburawa, Gurjiya and Jido Ward), Fagge and Kumbotso.
The commissioner warned that defaulters risk serious sanctions prescribed by the 2013 law, including imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of N10,000, and forfeiture of the motorcycle to the state.

The statement added that security agencies have been instructed to intensify surveillance and enforce the regulation across all designated areas, urging riders, passengers, transport unions and community leaders to ensure full compliance.
“The ministry remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring a safe, secure and orderly Kano State,” the added.
