The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, on Monday, kicked off a three-day capacity-building workshop in Keffi, Nasarawa State, aimed at enhancing professionalism and digital skills among journalists.
The workshop began with an inaugural lecture by the former National President of the NUJ, Dr. Chris Isiguzo, who addressed the topic: “Information management in the digital era: emerging trends & challenges.”
In his lecture, Dr. Isiguzo stated that the rapidly changing media environment warrants the importance for journalists to adopt new technologies, utilize fact-checking tools, and adhere to ethical reporting practices in a time characterized by artificial intelligence, misinformation, and digital upheaval.

He pointed out that while the digital age offers significant opportunities for quicker and wider information sharing, it also requires journalists to take greater responsibility in maintaining accuracy, integrity, and public trust.
Participants from various media outlets across the FCT attended the session, which included interactive discussions, hands-on training modules, and collaborative activities aimed at enhancing skills in digital reporting, multimedia storytelling, and data journalism.
The workshop will run until Wednesday, featuring additional expert-led sessions designed to further enrich participants’ knowledge and prepare newsrooms for new media trends.
The NUJ FCT Council stated that the initiative reflects its dedication to ongoing professional development and improving the standards of journalism in Nigeria.
