The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a nationwide directive mandating all road construction companies to immediately install adequate and standardised road signs at every project site across the country.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, who gave the order, said the directive complements President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and expand the nation’s road network.
In a statement released on Monday by the FRSC spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the agency said the move is aimed at safeguarding motorists navigating construction zones, where inadequate signage has led to recurring accidents.
“This directive is to ensure the safety of the motoring public around construction sites,” Ogungbemide quoted the corps marshal as saying.

Companies must “install, maintain, and continuously update proper road signage at every active or inactive construction area without exception.”
Mohammed ordered FRSC commanding officers nationwide to begin strict enforcement immediately, warning that construction firms that fail to comply with approved safety standards will face decisive regulatory sanctions.
He condemned what he described as a persistent pattern of negligence by some companies, noting that the failure to provide proper warning signs, diversion markers, and safety information continues to endanger road users.
The corps marshal reiterated that the directive is final, binding, and enforceable, adding that field commands will intensify supervision of all ongoing construction sites to ensure compliance.
