The Delta State Police Command has taken a major step in the investigation of the killing of retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, who was found dead in her Asaba home on the morning of November 24. Her hands and feet were tied, and a cloth had been forced into her mouth. The disturbing discovery was made by her brother, who immediately alerted authorities.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, a security guard on duty, Lucky Mathew, has been arrested. The main suspect, identified as Godwin Vanem, is on the run. Investigators believe he played a central role in the attack and fled the area shortly after the crime.
The Divisional Police Officer of A Division, Asaba, led the first team of officers to the residence, where the body was removed and taken for autopsy. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a full homicide probe.
