The family of the late Justice Ifeoma Okogwu has cried out for justice after the respected jurist was brutally murdered in her Asaba home on Sunday, November 23, 2025.

Speaking to journalists, her brother, Ogbueshi Godfrey Okogwu, confirmed the tragic incident, describing the news as a devastating blow to the entire family. According to him, the family learned of the killing early Monday morning.

“We were informed on Monday, which means the attack must have happened during the night. My eldest sister, Justice Ifeoma, was murdered in her own home. It is something we are still struggling to comprehend,” he said.

A troubling twist in the case is the unexplained disappearance of the night security guard assigned to the judge’s residence. Okogwu revealed that the guard scheduled for the morning shift told the family he met the gates wide open when he arrived.

“He claimed he just sat down there. Sat there doing what? I really cannot explain this kind of situation,” he said, expressing frustration over the suspicious circumstances.

The family has since handed over the name and details of the private security company responsible for deploying the guards to the police. Security operatives have reportedly detained the morning guard and summoned the company’s owner for questioning, though it is uncertain if he has honoured the invitation.

Recounting the horrific state in which the judge was discovered, Okogwu said her legs, hands, and face were tightly bound and her home thoroughly ransacked, suggesting a violent and deliberate attack.

“Only God knows what happened in that house. We cannot say anything for sure until the police complete their investigation,” he added.

The family has deposited her remains in the mortuary and visited both the police station and the security firm as part of efforts to push for transparency in the unfolding investigation.

They have now called on security agencies to ensure that every person connected to the incident is brought to justice without delay.
