Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has called for the immediate dissolution of the Ibadan Elective Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the establishment of a caretaker committee to stabilise the party ahead of its next primaries.
Lamido made the call on Thursday in Kano, while addressing hundreds of his political associates, including former local government chairmen, commissioners, and other appointees who served under him.
He lamented what he described as the deepening internal crises threatening the foundation and unity of the PDP.
According to him, the current turbulence in the party stems from attempts to sideline its founding members, insisting that, outsiders have captured the PDP, pushing aside its original owners.
He said his recent legal actions were meant to safeguard the party’s legacy and protect his fundamental rights, not to seek undue control.
The former governor stressed that the tenures of the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, remain valid until December 8, 2025, warning that the absence of a clear leadership structure could endanger officeholders and aspirants preparing for future elections.
“I am pushing for a caretaker committee and asking Wike, Damagun and others to forgive one another so that a proper structure can be put in place,” he said, urging PDP leaders to convene a joint meeting to address the lingering challenges.
He also appealed to his supporters to remain calm until December 8, when he expects clearer developments in the party.
Earlier, Chairman of the Ex-Political Appointees Forum, Babanbi Ibrahim, said the group condemned the manner in which the party leadership handled Lamido’s bid for the national chairmanship.
He added that the forum had mandated Lamido to explore a viable political platform that could advance their aspirations for Jigawa State and Nigeria.
