The House of Representatives will on Thursday inaugurate its ad hoc committee set up to investigate the rising insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with a specific focus on the controversial Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) project funded through a $460 million Chinese loan.
The inauguration, which will feature a broad stakeholders’ engagement, is expected to take place at 2:00 pm in Conference Room 231, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the House spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi, said the session is designed to gather “clear and verifiable information” from all relevant stakeholders on the status, implementation, and effectiveness of the long-stalled CCTV project, which was meant to bolster security in the FCT but has remained largely non-functional.
The engagement will examine gaps that have hindered the project’s operational value, despite the significant financial commitment made more than a decade ago.
Speaker of the House, Abass Tajudeen Abbas, will serve as the special guest of honour at the event.

Chairman of the ad hoc committee, Rep. Donald Ojogo, said the assignment underscores the House’s commitment to confronting the worsening security situation in the nation’s capital.
“This engagement provides an avenue to uncover the facts behind the shortcomings of the CCTV project and assess its impact on security delivery in the FCT,” Ojogo stated.
“We expect full cooperation from all parties because the safety of citizens cannot be compromised.
“Our recommendations will be driven by facts and directed at restoring efficiency, accountability, and public confidence.”
The House stressed that the inquiry aligns with its constitutional duty to ensure transparency, safeguard public resources, and protect lives.
It added that through open engagement and diligent scrutiny, lawmakers intend to hold all responsible parties to account and push for practical measures to improve security outcomes in Abuja and across the country.
