The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has reactivated the multi-agency security outfit known as ‘Operation Sweep FCT’ as part of renewed efforts to curb rising criminal activities across Abuja.
The joint operation, now backed by what officials describe as a firmer strategic mandate from the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, was relaunched on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, following a security briefing at Eagle Square, Abuja, involving heads of all participating agencies.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the relaunch marks a coordinated push for proactive, intelligence-led, and highly visible policing across the nation’s capital.
The operation brings together a broad coalition of security and regulatory bodies, including the police, army, air force, navy, Department of State Services (DSS), immigration, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Fire Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Directorate of Road Traffic Services (VIO), development control, environmental enforcement and monitoring teams and other supporting emergency and regulatory agencies

Adeh said the FCT has been divided into strategic sectors to allow rapid deployment, intensified patrols, and stronger inter-agency coordination, all aimed at deterring crime and responding swiftly to emerging threats.
She added that the FCT minister has continued to provide “unwavering commitment” and strategic direction to enhance security across the territory.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities using the emergency numbers 08032003913 and 08061581938.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that ‘Operation Sweep FCT’ will maintain a robust presence across all districts and communities.
