Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has presented a proposed N1.36 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year before the state House of Assembly, with education again receiving the highest sectoral allocation.

Presenting the budget tagged: “Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development”, the governor said the proposed budget totals N1,368,127,929,271 is designed to consolidate ongoing projects and initiate new interventions across key sectors.

Gov. Yusuf said the state plans to spend N934.6 billion on capital projects and N433.4 billion on recurrent expenditure, representing a 68% to 32% capital-to-recurrent ratio, which he described as a deliberate push toward growth-driven investments.

Education received the largest allocation with N405.3 billion, representing 30% of the total budget.

The governor said the priority given to education reflects the administration’s commitment to human capital development and restoring the state’s historical leadership in learning.

The health sector is billed to receive N212.2 billion (16%), while infrastructure—covering roads, public buildings, and urban development—was allocated N346.2 billion (25%).

Gov. Yusuf said the allocations underscore the government’s determination to strengthen physical development and expand frontline social services.

Other sectors, including agriculture, security, water resources, commerce, investment, tourism, youth and women development, environment and climate change, and transport, were also given what he described as significant consideration.

Gov. Yusuf noted that the administration had implemented more than 80 percent of its development blueprint since 2023, but stressed that the 2026 budget marks a critical juncture as his government enters the final phase of its four-year mandate.

He called on lawmakers to sustain the cooperation that characterised previous budget cycles, assuring that the document would translate into roads, classrooms, clinics, jobs, empowerment, and dignity for the people of Kano State.

The governor also commended ministries, departments, and agencies, development partners, civil society groups, and members of the public for contributing to the budget preparation.

While urging the assembly to ensure the timely passage of the proposal, Gov. Yusuf noted that the budget is bold but realistic, highlighting the importance of completing key projects and building lasting systems for generations to come.

The Speaker of the House, Ismail Falgore, assured the governor of passing the budget before the end of 2025.
