The Peoples Democratic Party has reaffirmed its commitment to holding its National Convention this Saturday in Ibadan, describing the event as sacrosanct and pivotal to the party’s internal democracy. The announcement was made by Adamawa Governor Umar Fintiri, chairman of the 2025 National Convention Organising Committee, following a crucial stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.
The meeting brought together top party figures, including members of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the National Working Committee, and the Board of Trustees. “We’ve just concluded our critical stakeholders’ meeting where several elaborate decisions were reached. I want to tell you that we are going to Ibadan for our convention, and the convention is sacrosanct,” Fintiri told journalists.
Held at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, the gathering saw the presence of notable leaders, including Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi and Seyi Makinde of Oyo, PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum, National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, and former Senate President Bukola Saraki. Former Minister Tanimu Turaki, the consensus candidate for national chairman, was also in attendance.

Other participants included Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, chairman of the PDP South-South Caretaker Committee, and several other key party figures. The convention is expected to focus on leadership elections and the party’s roadmap ahead of upcoming political contests.
The PDP has stressed that all necessary arrangements are in place to ensure a smooth and transparent convention, underscoring the party’s resolve to uphold its democratic processes and maintain unity among stakeholders.
