Senator Ned Nwoko has dismissed recent claims by his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, that he married her at 17. The lawmaker described the allegations as “false, damaging, and misleading,” insisting that Regina was 21 when they met and married.
According to a statement shared on his official social media account, Nwoko revealed that Regina presented her voter’s card during their first meeting, which showed she was born on October 10, 1998. He said he had kept the card since then as proof of her age.
The senator further stated that Regina’s mother confirmed her daughter’s age in a BBC interview shortly after their wedding. “All official records indicate that we got married six years ago, which makes Regina 27 today,” he said.
To strengthen his claim, Nwoko shared an image of Regina’s voter card online, showing the date of birth he referenced. He urged the public to disregard circulating reports that suggest he married her as a minor, describing such narratives as “calculated attempts to distort facts and incite controversy.”

Nwoko also appealed for restraint in amplifying what he termed “fabricated claims,” adding that Regina’s recent statements were influenced by personal challenges and her withdrawal from a drug rehabilitation program.
“It has come to my attention that false claims are being circulated by Regina, suggesting I married her at 17,” his statement read. “When we met, she said she was 21 and showed me her voter card, which indicates she was born in 1998. I have kept that card since. Her mother confirmed the same in a BBC interview. The facts are clear and verifiable—Regina is 27 today.”
The senator concluded by calling for an end to what he described as deliberate misinformation designed to damage reputations and mislead the public.
