Singer Innocent Idibia, also known as 2Face, discussed his hit song ‘African Queen’, calling it a life-changing track that also became a personal challenge for him.
During an appearance on the Entertainment & Lifestyle show, the music legend stated: “African Queen has been a major blessing, but it has also become a problem for me. Nevertheless, I am thankful for everything.”
Released in 2004, African Queen stands as one of Africa’s most iconic love songs.
It catapulted 2Face to international stardom, earning him awards like the BET Award, MTV Europe Award, and MOBO Award — milestones for an African artist.

The song has remained a subject of controversy due to claims from his former bandmate Blackface of Plantashun Boiz, who asserts that he wrote the song.
2Face has consistently denied this, stating it was a collaborative creation during their time together.
The debate reignited recently after Billboard named ‘African Queen’ the Greatest Afrobeats Song of All Time in 2025, renewing public discussion.
Despite the controversies, 2Face remains grateful.
He credits the song with giving him history, fame, recognition, and influence, but also notes it brought arguments, accusations, and pressure that have followed him for over 20 years.
