Barcelona President Joan Laporta says he is committed to seeing the Super League project come to fruition despite the stiff resistance against it.
Laporta who made this known in TVE’s interview noted that the project has the full support of Florentino Perez and other smaller clubs in Europe.
According to Laporta, the project is aimed to save European football and would be scheduled properly not to interfere with or obstruct domestic leagues The Trumpet gathered.
He conceded that he is constantly in touch with Real Madrid President Florentino Perez and vowed to ensure European football is removed from the hands of states that do not belong to the European Union.
He added that there is a framework being set in place to check clubs like Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain with excessive cash which is unacceptable.
Laporta said: “We are promoting the project together with Florentino Perez, with whom I speak often. It is a way to save European football. It is evident that we must fit it into the framework of European football without destroying the domestic leagues. They are essential for us.
“We cannot allow European football to be in the hands of states that do not belong to the European Union. It is clear that [Manchester] City and PSG have a money-making machine, and we are fighting against that.
“Not only the three clubs that I am talking about, but others who are silent, but in the background they give us their support,” he added.
However, Barcelona seeking to bolster the team ahead of next season’s campaign is looking to sign Borussia Dortmund Erling Haaland, extend the contract of Ousmane Dembele, and possibly return Lionel Messi to Camp Nou.
Following the above, Laporta revealed that though the club is aiming to add new strings of players to the team, the club will not go against its financial policy to make the deals possible.
He continued: “I am very clear that I put the institution above the players, coaches, directors, and executives,” he said.

“We are not going to make signings that alter our salary policy. We want to improve the team over individuals. I am not going to give any names because it would raise their price and it would do Barcelona a disservice.
“If Leo [Messi] wants to talk to me about returning to Barcelona, I would be delighted,” he stated.
Barcelona, third in the Spanish table that recently sealed sponsorship deals with Spotify and CVC, is optimistic about winning the La Liga title with nine matches left to go.
