The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Security Spokespersons Forum on Thursday held a strategic meeting aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration and improving public information management.

The meeting, which took place at the Federal Fire Service FCT Command Headquarters in Kubwa, Abuja, brought together spokespersons and Public Relations Officers from key security and emergency response agencies across the territory, in a renewed effort to enhance coordination and communication among security agencies operating within the nation’s capital.

According to a statement signed by SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, and Coordinator of the Forum, the session focused on improving communication strategies, operational synergy, and public enlightenment among the agencies.

During the meeting, participants underscored the critical importance of timely information sharing, coordinated messaging, and joint public communication in addressing emerging security challenges within the FCT.

They emphasized that stronger cooperation among the agencies’ spokespersons would not only enhance service delivery but also boost operational efficiency and public confidence in the work of security institutions.

Representatives from major agencies — including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Federal Fire Service — participated in the session.

The meeting also provided a platform for sharing ideas on crisis communication, information management, and inter-agency collaboration during emergencies and joint operations.

Members of the forum unanimously agreed that collaboration among security agencies should go beyond occasional meetings, stressing the need for continuous engagement, joint training exercises, and public sensitisation campaigns to build a safer and better-informed Federal Capital Territory.

They also noted that effective communication among agencies plays a key role in preventing misinformation, ensuring unified responses during crises, and maintaining citizens’ trust in government institutions.

Adeh, who doubles as the forum’s coordinator, commended the participating agencies for their commitment to inter-agency partnership and urged members to sustain the momentum. She described the forum as a “vital bridge between security agencies and the public,” adding that improved communication remains a cornerstone for effective security operations in the FCT.

“The essence of this forum is to foster cooperation, harmonize communication channels, and project a unified front in promoting safety, peace, and public confidence,” Adeh stated.

The forum resolved to expand its collaborative efforts through joint media briefings, capacity-building workshops, and community-focused enlightenment campaigns targeting residents of the FCT.

The FCT Security Spokespersons Forum, which serves as a coalition of all information and public relations units of security and response agencies in the capital, has in recent years played an instrumental role in fostering unified communication and countering misinformation, especially during emergencies.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by all member agencies to work together seamlessly, ensuring that the FCT remains secure, peaceful, and responsive to the needs of its residents.
