The Delta State House of Assembly has fixed Tuesday, October 28, 2025, for a public hearing on a proposed bill seeking to repeal the Rent Control and Recovery of Residential Premises Law of 1977 and enact a new Landlord and Tenant Law of Delta State, 2025.
The bill, which has already passed second reading on the floor of the House, was referred to a Joint Committee comprising the Committees on Housing, Women Affairs, Girl Child Entrepreneur and Humanitarian Support Services, as well as Physical Planning and Urban Renewal, for detailed consideration.
In a statement issued in Asaba, the Chairman of the Committee on Housing, Women Affairs, Girl Child Entrepreneur and Humanitarian Support Services, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, announced that the public hearing will take place at the Press Centre, Delta State House of Assembly Complex, beginning at 11 a.m.
Anyafulu explained that the hearing is aimed at gathering views and inputs from relevant stakeholders to enrich the proposed legislation. She encouraged the participation of key government officials, including the Commissioners for Justice, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Renewal, and Information, as well as representatives of landlords, tenants, real estate associations, and other stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.

Individuals or groups wishing to make oral presentations are advised to contact the Committee Clerk, Mrs. Esther Ezeocha-Ekwuaja, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Assembly Complex.
The Assembly said the public hearing highlights its commitment to updating obsolete housing laws and ensuring a fair balance between the rights of landlords and tenants in the state.
