Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the immediate release of ₦5.8 billion to clear outstanding gratuities owed to retired public officers in the state.
The approval, announced on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Finance, Mohammed Geidam, marks a major step in the government’s efforts to enhance the welfare of retired civil servants.
“This significant milestone underscores the administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its dedicated civil servants who have served the state meritoriously,” Geidam said in the statement.

Gov. Buni also directed that gratuity payments be integrated into the state’s monthly financial schedule, a move aimed at ensuring regular and timely disbursement of benefits.
Geidam explained that going forward, gratuities would be paid monthly alongside pensions to prevent future accumulation of unpaid entitlements.
The initiative, according to him, is expected to bring relief to thousands of retired workers across Yobe State who have been awaiting their benefits.
