‎Long-suffering motorists along the Warri–Sapele–Benin Highway can finally breathe a sigh of relief as Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the reconstruction of the failed Effurun–Sapele section, a stretch notorious for gridlock and road accidents.
‎
‎The Delta State Government has awarded the ₦35 billion contract to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to rebuild the 10-kilometre dual carriageway. The project spans from the Spare Parts Market U-Turn in Effurun to just beyond Ohore Junction before Omenta Bridge, covering parts of Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Areas.
‎
‎According to the State Tenders Board, the reconstruction will be completed within 12 months. Each carriageway will measure 11.6 metres in width, including 2.8-metre shoulders, with reinforced concrete pavement, stormwater drains, and a durable asphalt finish to withstand heavy traffic.

‎Governor Oborevwori, through his MORE Agenda, has made road rehabilitation and urban renewal a central focus of his administration. His latest intervention aims to restore free vehicular movement, improve trade flow, and reinforce Delta’s role as a commercial gateway in the South-South.
‎
‎Although the road is federally owned, years of neglect have left it in a deplorable state, causing daily frustration for commuters and hampering business activities in the Warri industrial corridor. The state’s decision to step in, commuters say, reflects a pragmatic approach to governance and a commitment to public welfare over bureaucratic boundaries.
‎
‎CCECC’s involvement in the reconstruction brings renewed confidence, given its track record in major infrastructure projects across Nigeria. The Oborevwori administration has assured that quality, durability, and timely delivery will define the work, signalling a new phase of infrastructural transformation in Delta State.
‎
‎The reconstruction of the Effurun–Sapele Road is expected to ease transportation, stimulate investment, and revive economic activity across Delta’s busiest transport axis, marking another milestone in Governor Oborevwori’s promise of a modern, connected, and resilient state.
