NiMet forecasts 3-day weather variation starting Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has announced its weather predictions for the period from Monday to Wednesday across the country.

According to NiMet’s weather outlook released in Abuja, sunny conditions are expected on Monday, with some cloud cover in the northern areas.

The agency predicts the possibility of isolated thunderstorms and light rain in parts of Taraba and southern Kebbi States during the morning.

“As the day progresses, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are anticipated in parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Kebbi, and southern Sokoto States.

“In the central region, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected, along with the chance of morning thunderstorms and moderate rain in parts of Niger, Benue, Plateau, and Kogi States.

“Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are forecasted for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Kogi, Kwara, and Nasarawa States,” it stated.

NiMet also predicts a cloudy atmosphere in the southern region, with the possibility of morning thunderstorms and light rain in Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Imo, Ebonyi, and Abia States.

Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected across most of the southern region.

On Tuesday, NiMet forecasts sunny weather with some cloud cover in the northern region during the morning.

Isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected later in the day in parts of Kaduna, Taraba, Bauchi, Southern Kano, Southern Jigawa, and Adamawa States.

The central region is also expected to have sunny skies with patches of clouds.

Morning thunderstorms with light rain are anticipated in Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, the FCT, Niger, and Benue States.

Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in parts of Nasarawa, the FCT, Niger, and Kogi States.

In the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere is expected with morning rain in Ogun, Ondo, Ebonyi, Lagos, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States.

Later, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are forecasted for parts of Imo, Ebonyi, Abia, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States,” it noted.

On Wednesday, NiMet predicts sunny weather with some cloud cover in the northern region and thunderstorms with light rain in parts of Taraba State during the morning.

The agency expects isolated thunderstorms with light rain in parts of Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba States later in the day.

The forecast indicates a cloudy atmosphere with sunny intervals in the central region, along with chances of thunderstorms and light rain in parts of Niger, Kwara, and Benue States during the morning.

Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in parts of Kogi, Benue, Niger, Nasarawa States, and the FCT.

“A cloudy atmosphere is anticipated in the southern region, with morning thunderstorms and light rain in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in many areas of the region,” it added.

NiMet advised the public to drive carefully in the rain, secure loose items to prevent accidents, and unplug electrical devices from outlets.

It also recommended that people avoid standing under tall trees to prevent injury from falling branches or trees.

“Farmers should refrain from applying fertilizers and pesticides just before the rains to prevent nutrient leaching.

“Airline operators are encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for better operational planning.

“Residents should stay updated with weather information from NiMet by visiting www.nimet.gov.ng,” NiMet concluded.
